I was in bed with a cold, watching all the Netflixies, when I first became infatuated with Carine Roitfeld. The feature length documentary Mademoiselle C follows the former editor-in-chief of French Vogue around as she does all manner of glamorous things.

Look at her there, chatting with Tom Ford and holding court to a group of eager-eyed employees in an editorial meeting. Then knocking about with Karl Lagerfeld while getting ready for the Met Ball, and casually doing the splits in her private ballet class (fabulous eye makeup throughout).

With incredible style, Carine Roitfeld has the look of a woman shamelessly promenading the walk of shame. She’s elegantly dishevelled with her trademark this-is-last-night’s eye make up and one too few buttons on her blouse. I love her.

I lay there, watching Mademoiselle C in my fetid sheets, transfixed, my nose streaming and a scarf tied, Jacob Marley-like, around my aching head. Needless to say, the contrast between myself and Carine was quite bleak.

But now, thanks to marvellous Uniqlo, I can live the dream and draw fractionally nearer to CR by wearing her clothes (and pretending to be her).

The UNIQLO X CARINE collection (above) is out-of-order sexy. There’s everything here you might need to pay homage to CR’s signature pencil skirt w/ blouse look, right down to the hosiery. She’s thought of everything. Here are a few of my favourite pieces…
